WHAT IS REIKI?

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) means 'Universal (Rei) Life Force Energy (Ki)' . Reiki is a type of hands-on healing. Hands-on healing is a natural, gentle, safe, non-invasive therapy. Unlike other types of hands-on healing, Reiki is 'intelligent' energy, meaning that it knows where it is needed without having to be guided by the thoughts or intentions of the practitioner. Reiki is a complementary therapy that can safely be used alongside any other therapy or veterinary treatment.

I am a Master Practitioner Member of the UK Reiki Federation. The Reiki technique that I practice is Usui Reiki Ryoho, an ancient system of healing rediscovered towards the end of the nineteenth century by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Buddhist monk.

HOW DOES REIKI WORK?

Reiki works by influencing the body's own ability to heal itself.

The body as a whole functions on several levels - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. What connects these levels is the energy body - an intricate network of channels that permeates the body as a whole, and circulates the body's life-force energy. Ki, Chi, prana and orgone are just a few of the names given to this life-force energy.

Where there is energy, there is an energy field. In living creatures, this is usually referred to as the 'aura'. The aura surrounds the physical body. Just like the physical body, the aura is not impenetrable, and it is via the aura that the Reiki energy is 'absorbed' into the body.

Physical or emotional trauma, stress, and other psychological or physiological upsets can un-balance the body's energy and cause vibrational disturbances and 'blockages', which can manifest as ill-health and behaviour problems.

Working at the spiritual or 'soul' level, Reiki helps to remove these blockages and negative vibrations, speeding up the healing process and restoring harmony and balance to the body as a whole.

HOW CAN REIKI HELP MY ANIMAL?

When animals receive Reiki, many owners report positive changes in their pets' well-being and behaviour. For people, Reiki is frequently reported to relieve pain, stress, emotional disturbances, and many other body-energy imbalances. In both pets and people, Reiki can help to relax, release, re-balance, re-energize and restore.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM A REIKI SESSION

Normally, a Reiki session will take place in the animal's home, stable or yard.

Reiki is a very relaxed affair for all involved. The majority of animals are very willing and happy to receive Reiki and readily relax and accept the treatment. Some animals can be a little wary, particularly if they are in pain, but if this is so, Reiki can also be given 'hands-off', which is equally as effective as 'hands-on' due to the Reiki energy being received via the animal's energy field. Sometimes, it will be better for the animal and safer for me to begin a session 'hands-off' until the animal relaxes enough for the treatment to continue 'hands-on'.

Most animals relax very quickly once the Reiki energy begins to flow. Many animals will 'twitch' whilst receiving Reiki. These twitches are completely normal and nothing to be concerned about. Usually seen in the legs, the twitches are little bursts of kinetic energy that physically 'jog' the body as the Reiki energy releases blockages and negative vibrations from within the animal's energy body. These twitches are simillar to the twitches sometimes seen during dream-sleep, but during a Reiki session the animal is relaxed and awake.

Once the Reiki session is complete, most animals will enjoy a good stretch and drink of water.

For the days following a Reiki treatment, I will require you to monitor your animal's well-being and behaviour for signs of change or improvement.

Reiki is not a substitute for proper veterinary care. Although Reiki is a non-invasive, complimentary therapy, you will need to obtain written permission from your vet before I can give your animal Reiki if he or she is already receiving veterinary treatment for a medical problem. If your dog is ill or suffering from a known condition, it is important that medical care is sought first, and provided and continued alongside Reiki therapy. The same applies to behaviour problems. Reiki is a complementary therapy, not a solution or a cure.

REIKI SESSION FEES

Initial session ~ £50.00.
Approximately an hour and a half. Before giving Reiki to your animal, I will ask you some questions about his or her health and behaviour and note the answers down on a Reiki treatment record. After your animal has received Reiki, we will have time to discuss and feedback about the session.

Subsequent sessions ~ £30.00.
Approximately an hour including the Reiki treatment itself and time to feedback at the end of the session. Some animals will benefit from a few sessions in close succession, whilst others continue to do well with less frequent but regular 'top-up' sessions. Your animal's well-being and behaviour will help to determine its ongoing Reiki therapy plan.
